  • Speaker: Tom Berkheimer - Vice President, Regulatory Compliance Barton Solvents

Hear from ACD Member, Barton Solvents, as they review the unique sequence of events that led to two facility fires resulting from different Bonding and Grounding issues. This session will review the lessons learned and how Barton Solvents managed to build organizational resilience following two back-to-back incidents.

Session 2: Hazard Area Static Control

Does your company perform flammable transfers through drumming, tote filling, truck and/or rail loading/unloading? Help ensure the safest practices are in place when performing these operations through hazard area static control. This session will dive into the causes of static electricity and hazards in flammable transfers and review engineering and administrative practices that can be taken to minimize the risk of a static discharge in operations. Through a review of Bonding versus Grounding, gain a better understanding of good and valid ground and the effects of temperature and humidity on a ground connection. Finally, attendees will review different levels of solutions and equipment that can be implemented to protect against a hazardous area static discharge.

This session will discuss understanding your external risk, including within business contracts, mitigation, contingency planning, and building technologies that can factor into your risk and liability for insurance plans.

This session will discuss the importance and benefits of engaging with the local first responder community through the dual perspective of an active first responder and employee of an ACD Member company. Learn ways to better engage with first responders, the importance of information sharing and understanding each other’s operations, and the benefits of conducting joint drills.
